Acrylic on Wood Panel.
This painting was an elemental conjuring, and the surface changed dramatically for much of the process, developing a skin. I sanded certain layers to reveal inner structure, while neon, tart-hot tones diffuse like searing vapor. The cool blue horizon has a collaged-in lump of easel ‘“fordite” , creating the illusion of an absurd reflection, or miniature event, on water. This would be the scene in a cosmic action film where the steaming acrid rig on which the action happens is introduced, but then the very fabric of reality fragments, and anything visible is broken into seams which distort the very concept of distance, collapsing the infinitely far into a browsable flatness.
