JONAH H. MELTZER

I am a visual and olfactory artist, based in Ferndale, Michigan. I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Art Education from Michigan State University in 2018. I’m fascinated by the diversity within consciousness and how material expresses consciousness. I’m inspired by material itself being a sensory portal, or an archive of information. My works suspend elements in context, like notes in chords, forming new types of resonance. I imbue strong feelings, concepts, memories, and associations into material so that they may be read and felt. I see my artworks as enchantments. My work is informed by the lived frontier of Bipolar I and Schizoaffective disorder. I transform volatility and interference into focus. I study the intricacies of how perception shapes reality. My works are meant to create the conditions for moments of awareness.
