Jonah Meltzer is a Michigan based artist and intuitive psychic. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Michigan State University in 2018. Jonah is inspired by the idea of making elixirs that suspend elemental ingredients like notes in chords, forming new types of resonance. He hopes to induce strong feelings, memories, and associations, from raw color and texture, and fragrance. His works counterbalance spontaneity with measured intervention, a metaphor for discovering meaning and purpose amongst the chaos of life. Horizontally stacked color fields reference the spirit of Blinky Palermo, Agnes Martin and Mark Rothko, artists famous for their containment of energized color. Fragrances take on new form as impressionistic bouquets with alchemical emotional process. Jonah’s work builds on tradition while also participating in discourse regarding spiritual identity, esotericism, queerness, the internet, magic, and mental health.
